Asian steak with lettuce wrap

  • 2 Fillet or sirloin steaks, sliced
  • 1 Tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1 tin of water chestnuts
  • 4 Spring onions, sliced
  • 3 Shallots finely, chopped
  • 1 Clove of garlic finely chopped
  • 1 Heaped teaspoon of fresh ginger, finely chopped
  • 2 Red chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 Cup of shiitake mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon of soya sauce
  • 1 Teaspoon of fish sauce
  • 2 Limes, juiced
  • 1 Teaspoon of palm sugar of honey
  • To garnish
  • Torn mint and basil leaves
  • 1 Dessert spoon of honey roast peanuts chopped
  • Gem lettuce leaves
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan and add the shallots, garlic, ginger & chilli. Fry gently for a couple of minutes.
  • Add the mushrooms & beef and stir fry for a further couple of minutes, then add the spring onions and water chestnuts and fry for a couple more minutes.
  • Add the oyster sauce, soya sauce, fish sauce & palm sugar and fry for a further few minutes.
  • Finally add the lime juice and fry for a minute until hot
  • Sprinkle over the mint, basil and roasted peanuts.
  • Serve wrapped in gem lettuce leaves.
